I though this might be Rhodochrosite because the pink looks quite gemmy, but my expert at the Yucaipa Valley Gem and Mineral Society says this is Rhodonite. However, we both agree that this is NOT 'Crafton Hills Rhodonite'. That being said... Unfortunately, we have no idea where it originated, but most of our inventory was collected in the Western USA. Most of our Rhodonite is locally from Crafton Hills, but this doesn't look like our local stuff. This stone is cut on one side (the photo with the label) and unfortunately shows little pink in the internals, which reduces the price. But like most rocks, you just never know what the next cut will reveal. It does make a nice specimen.
