A member of Yucaipa Valley Gem and Mineral Society (YVGMS) tells us this is Banded Rhyolite. It was cut on one side to show the banding. The dark vertical streaks are saw marks. We didn't cut this, but it looks like whoever did is trying to burn their blade. Rhyolite is lava that cooled quickly on the surface (rather than underground) and didn't have time to form large crystals. It is mostly made of silica. The banding was created by the flowing lava. Unfortunately, we have no idea where it originated, but most of our inventory was collected in the Western USA. Consider the cost of shipping and add multiple items to your cart.
