The amazing woodblock print "Shiki Kacho-zu" (Birds and Flowers of the Four Seasons) is by Hoitsu Sakai (1761–1828), a very famous Japanese Nihon-ga painter of the Rinpa school. Hoitsu, a master of the new Edo Rinpa school who followed Sotatsu and Korin, had a stylish and urbane style and established a unique style of painting full of elegance. Originally painted during the Edo period as a folding screen, this print was published by Tansei-sha in 1983. The publisher's seal, the printer's name 'Kurazo Yoneda,' and the carver's name 'Sadao Uetani' are located in the left margin. It comes with an original explanatory paper (in Japanese only, no English). This beautiful print captures the vibrant colors of flowers and the simple beauty of the white egret in all its glory. The sprinkles of gold and silver leaf add an elegant and gorgeous mood.
