Hydrangea macrophylla 'Red Sensation' ~ Red Sensation Hydrangea
Red Sensation Hydrangea is a compact reblooming deciduous shrub with a dense bushy habit and serrated dark green leaves that have no fall color. The buds open green before swelling with a color depending on the soil PH - a vibrant red in acidic soils, while alkaline soils produce deep blue flowers - and then earn purple tones as they fade. The first bloom is in late spring, and if deadheaded will produce another wave in late summer into fall. The flowers attract pollinators. Best bloom in partial sun and rich, moist well-drained soils.
