I combed through a number of current and historical maps and reflected on many of my own visits to the island while working on this project. Being fortunate enough to call Fidalgo Island (known as the "Gateway to the San Juans") home for now over a decade, I've had the opportunity to visit Orcas Island myself numerous times over the years.
