
Chrysoberyl - Cyclical Twinning, and Excellent Crystallization - 2.93 ct. - Lac Alaotra, Madagascar

Dimensions: 14.5 x 13 x 1.35 Clarity: N/A, but very gemmy and transparent Origin: Lac Alaotra, Madagascar Treatments: None Comments: I particularly like these crystals, which show distinct cyclical twinning. Technically it's a sixling twin, but the only sign you see of seperate 'wings' is the crystallization 'sutures' seen between individual crystal blades, which meet in the center. This piece exhibits amazing crystallization and growth patterning. The long edges are all beveled, and you can see faint 6-sided shapes on the front surface of the crystal. It's a lovely yellow color, and has incredible luster. No damage, either! There's one spot on the corner that looks as if it COULD be a little ding, but upon close inspection, it is actually a place that shows stepped crystal growth, looking like terraced rice paddies!
