Buttercrunch Lettuce

250 SEEDS. Lactuca sativa. 60 - 70 days. Annual. Heirloom. Zones 3 - 9. The most popular variety of butterhead lettuce, with a soft, buttery texture that is mildly sweet. Vibrant green heads grow fast and leaves can be harvested when needed as baby greens or grown to full heads. Although it is hardy, it is a cool-weather crop that can handle some shade. This lettuce is great for salad! For head lettuce, start seeds in rich, fine soil 3 - 4 weeks before transplanting as soon as soil can be worked. Barely cover with soil and firm lightly. Utilize frequent misting to keep cool during germination, if necessary. Grows best at 60–65°F. Germinates in 7 - 10 days. To direct sow, plant 4 - 6 seeds per inch in rows 12" apart as soon as the soil can be worked. Thin seedlings to 8" apart when 1 - 2" tall. Avoid overcrowding. Succession plant every week or two for a continuous supply. Keep soil evenly moist. Full sun to partial shade.
