Oakleaf Lettuce
Approx. 250 SEEDS. Lactuca sativa. 40 - 65 days. Annual. Heirloom. Zones 3 - 9. Fast-growing, mildly sweet, bright green leaves that can tolerate colder temperatures well. Tender and great for salads. Can be planted in the garden or in conatiners. Directly sow seeds 1/8" deep in moist, fertile soil 2 - 3" apart as soon as the soil can be worked in the Spring. Firm soil lightly and keep evenly moist. Germinates in 7 - 14 days. Thin seedlings to stand 8 - 10" apart when 1 - 2" tall, allowing enough space to grow, as overcrowding causes bitter lettuce. Keep well-watered throughout the growing season, especially during dry spells. Succession sow to extend harvests. Full sun to partial shade. Harvest as baby greens or allow to mature to full heads.
