Dated Very Fine Emperor Antoninus Pius Roman Empire AE As coin. 10.75g, RIC 557 (rated as scarce). Dated COS II = 139 CE. Apparently Unpublished obverse variety with drapery. Issued during Antoninus Pius' first year as Emperor. Obverse: ANTONINVS AVG PIVS P P, laureate, draped bust of Emperor facing right. Reverse: FELICITAS AVGVSTI COS II S C, Felicitas standing left holding caduceus and cornucopia. Felicitas Goddess was the personification of good luck and success. Felicitas could encompass both a woman's fertility, and a general's luck or good fortune. She had a temple in Rome and her festivals were on July 1st and October 9th. She was frequently portrayed on coins as a symbol of the wealth and prosperity of the Roman Empire. An appropriate type for the beginning of a new Emperor's reign!
