Choice Extremely Fine Emperor Marcus Aurelius Roman Empire silver denarius coin. Approx. 17mm, RIC 113a, RSC 852d. Dated denarius minted at Rome from Dec 163 to Dec 164 CE. Early date issue for Marcus as Emperor (TR P XVIII COS III). Rare and superb laurate, cuirassed bust portrait and detailed figure of Felicitas. Well struck with nice surfaces and centered flan. Toned with some luster, attractive in hand. Certified by NGC to Ch XF. Obverse: M ANTONINVS AVG IMP II, mature laureate, cuirassed bust right with full beard. Reverse: TR P XVIII COS III, Felicitas seated right holding caduceus and cornucopia. Felicitas was the personification of good luck and success. Felicitas could encompass both a woman's fertility, and a general's luck or good fortune. She had a temple in Rome and her festivals were on July 1st and October 9th. She was frequently portrayed on coins as a symbol of the wealth and prosperity of the Roman Empire.
