Choice Extremely Fine Emperor Marcus Aurelius Roman Empire silver denarius coin. 3.34g, approx. 18mm, RIC 132, RSC 476. Dated denarius minted at Rome from Dec 164 to Aug 165 CE. Early date issue for Marcus as Emperor (TR P XIX IMP II COS III). Superb laurate portrait of Marcus Aurelius. Well struck with centered flan. Toned with some luster, attractive in hand. Certified by NGC to Ch XF brushed (not distracting if detected). Obverse: ANTONINVS AVG ARMENIACVS, laureate head right with full beard. Reverse: P M TR P XIX IMP II COS III, Felicitas standing left holding caduceus and cornucopia at her feet globe. Felicitas was the personification of good luck and success. Felicitas could encompass both a woman's fertility, and a general's luck or good fortune. She had a temple in Rome and her festivals were on July 1st and October 9th. She was frequently portrayed on coins as a symbol of the wealth and prosperity of the Roman Empire.
