Choice Almost Uncirculated Emperor Septimius Severus Roman Empire silver denarius coin. 3.20g, RSC 25, RIC 253, Foss 78a (attributed to 207 CE). Historic emission for the Emperor's Visit to Africa, with honors to the Punic god of healing (equivalent to Aesculapius). Seldom used reverse legend type with AFRICA. Certified by NGC to Ch AU with fully lustrous & reflective surfaces. Looks nicer than the assigned grade. Pedigree: Ex. Victor England (precursor to CNG) from the 1980s with original ticket. Obverse: SEVERVS PIVS AVG, laureate bust of emperor. Reverse: AFRICA, Africa wearing elephant-skin head-dress standing right holding out robe with lion to right.
