USDA Cold Hardiness Zone: 3 Native Range: North East Asia. Soil: Average soil conditions and neutral pH. Light: Full sun. Height in the Garden: Up to 100' in the wild. I believe it'll be much shorter than that in cultivation, maybe up to 75' over a long period of time. Attributes: Q. mongolica is a medium to large sized tree with a wide spreading canopy. It has winter deciduous foliage and is drought tolerant once well established. It will benefit from moderate summer irrigation in the western U.S. Notes: This tree is very unusual and hard to find in the U.S. I have several trees in the field and believe they will make excellent bonsai. Uses: Bonsai, collector's tree, specimen tree. Size: 4" Anderson band pot.
