Long Supple Victorian Slide Chain with Opal

This classic Victorian slide chain is long and supple, accented by a very pretty slide. The chain is a tight curb of gold-filled metal, finished with a small watch hook. The gold slide is an oval, star-set with a fiery little opal. The slide moves easily on the chain and stays where you position it. Slide chains were originally designed to hold a small ladies watch. It may still be used for this, but they are very versatile and may be worn in many ways. This chain can be worn doubled or even tripled, and you can hang pendants, fobs, lockets, or whatever strikes your fancy from the hook. Circa 1870.
