Front-Line Customer Service: Supporting Students On The Autism Spectrum

Description  Overview The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that one in eighty-eight children born in the year 2000 had been identified with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)*. Today, that number is 1 in 36** These statistics represent our current and incoming students. This webinar will take a deep dive into the various communication challenges presented by students on the Autism Spectrum, including those with Asperger’s Syndrome.We will review the basics of working with students with a disability such as the use of people first language and the etiquette of discussing a student’s accommodation needs. But we will also spend time exploring the many ways that students with Autism Spectrum Disorders might need to communicate with us and how we can better support them as they move through the college environment.Specifically, we will look at ways to prepare for predictable needs and ways to respond in the moment, especially when dealing with a student who i
