
Herkimer Diamond Quartz Crystal, Mohawk Valley, NY USA—SELF3

It is naturally raw and unpolished, and any damage has not been polished out.* This glamorous little beauty is known as a Herkimer diamond quartz, an unusual variety of locality quartz found in Herkimer County, New York. Smoky Herkimers are more rare than clear particularly in crystals of this size. This particular crystal was self-collected from Diamond Mountain, Little Falls, NY, in April 2024! This diminutive yet powerful little gem exhibits double termination, with some light abrasions, contact and roughness on one side, and one incomplete point. There are lots of rainbows in these crystals. The rainbows likely formed as a result of the crystals’ intense and changing formation environment, which likely included tectonic activity resulting in interior fractures.
