Chinese Qing Peony Scroll Basin 19th Century
A very large and decorative antique Chinese basin with cobalt blue paintings of scrolling peonies along the cavetto, and a matrix patter in the central well. The outside is painted with quick blue flourishes. The porcelain basin has a wide lip. The cut foot is unglazed and the base is glazed. There are no marks or labels. MEASUREMENTS 11 ½” diameter x 3 3/8” deep. Weighs 2 lbs 13.0 oz (1275 g) CONDITION The bowl has no breaks, cracks, or chips; and it rings like a bell. The well has been restored. The glaze on approximately half the well has a brown tinge, as does the base. This glaze has less shine, as well. The cobalt used for the repairs matches the original very closely. There are customary kiln flaws like pin hole reserves, kiln grit and black spots and bumps. A large and noticeable piece to add to an antique blue and white collection or use to add substance and age to your home décor. The piece is large, colorful and impressive.
