Herkimer Diamond Quartz *Birthday Pocket*, Diamond Mtn, NY USA—SELF12

It is naturally raw and unpolished, and price factors in condition.* This glamorous little beauty is known as a black Herkimer diamond quartz, an unusual variety of quartz found in Herkimer County, New York. Black Herkimers are more rare than clear particularly in clusters of this size. This particular cluster was self-collected from Birthday Pocket, Diamond Mountain, Little Falls, NY, in August 2020! It features double termination and twinning between one main crystal and tiny babies, with some abrasions and incomplete formations. Black inclusions in the crystal are a result of hydrocarbons and anthraxolite—it is so heavily included throughout that it appears to be smoky, but it’s a result of inclusions rather than irradiation as normal smokies are.
